Went to a concert (Incubus / Deftones). The concert kicked ass. But then after the show was over I dialed Uber to get home. My driver was cool, but the bill I got was not. $205.
And I have never had a bill this high before. The last several times I have used Uber I have never had a bill this high. I am actively trying to dispute it, but has anyone had this happen? What can be done?
It will be a long time before I use or recommend Uber again. I'm deleting my account and uninstalling the app from my phone. I'll take taxis from here on out.

(100,100 posts)The last time I took Uber I went to the Irvine Improv. It's about equal distance from my house as where I was last night. That ride was $42. That was what I expected to pay last night. When I saw the bill last night I just about had a heart attack.

(26,335 posts)They'll drop you off at a concert at the United Center (not the best neighborhood to get a taxi or walk) but gettin home is a different story. Ca-Ching. They rake you over the coals.

(26,603 posts)That app should have indicated how much the regular fare would be multiplied by when you summoned the car.
The only time I used Uber (to a concert) it was the same way: a reasonable fare going, but it would have been ~4x higher to go back. We flagged down a yellow cab, and got a ride away from the concert for the same price as the Uber ride to the concert.
I guess it's the typically nicer cars, and maybe the bells and whistles of the online app and the cool newness - but I personally don't feel any attraction to Uber over a cab...

(9,527 posts)I refuse to use them as they classify their drivers as independent contractors in obvious violation of that portion of the tax code. Uber has lost on this claim in California and will hopefully lose elsewhere soon.

Oh and one of their executives has threatened to spend millions to find dirt on those who report on Uber's business practices.

Uber is a scummy company all around.
