It was horrible. I was attacked this afternoon. Twice.

I was out in my power chair on my usual afternoon inspection of the neighborhood. It was a pleasant day and I was taking my time, just enjoying the day, when suddenly two dogs came running at me from down the block. I stopped and became very still and tried to be non-threatening, but it didn't work. Before I knew it two Golden Retrievers were upon me! One was to the right, the other the left, and they began licking and nosing me. My God, I thought, this is IT. This is how it's going to end. I'm going to be beaten to death by their wagging tails! I couldn't move- they had their paws on me, and they were trying to jump up onto my lap. On the sidewalk, on an otherwise peaceful city street! Nooooooooooooo!

After a few minutes of this I was finally able to break free and get away from them after distracting them by scratching their ears and telling them what good boys they were. It seemed to calm them a bit, and I was able to roll away. I thought they would run after me and finish me off, but I worked up the courage to look back to see them sitting there on the side of the road, tongues out, panting, tails still wagging. I was lucky. I survived their attack.

Fighting the inevitable adrenaline rush I rolled toward home, only to see one of my neighbors in the distance. She was out patrolling with her black Lab at her side. I was hoping for the best, but damn it, the dog saw me and ran toward me and tried to pin me down by jumping onto my lap. (Why do they DO that??) Fortunately, this time the struggle was brief, as my neighbor brought her beast under control with just a little effort. She had to go to work, you see, so she had to spare my life. This time.

That's it. That's the last time I venture out unarmed. The first thing tomorrow I'm heading straight for the dollar store so I can get a pack of doggie treats. Fight fire with fire, I always say!!

His owners won't leash him so he roams the neighborhood. Thinks he owns it.

That's the problem with Chihuahuas- they all think they're 10' tall, and they're all fearless. There's only one thing this one fears- my Suzie Q. She's been play-fighting with Lucy Lu (my cat) since she first arrived, so she knows how to handle a five pound boy puppy. He knows when it's time to back away from Suzie.

Nobody wants to call animal control- everyone in the neighborhood keeps an eye out for him, and the family has two young kids, so nobody wants him to just disappear into a cage. I had a Chihuahua once that got out, and we didn't locate her for five days. We think she was mistreated where she was kept, and I don't quite trust places like that now. Right or wrong, there it is.

And they roam the streets without bodyguards?

I hope the little beast is ok.

and she didn't need a bodyguard. She never bit a soul and barely growled, but was very territorial and one day she was sunning herself on the front porch and an unfortuate huge lab wandered into the yard. She ran after him like a gazelle and he didn't know what hit him. I swear she was smiling when she came back to the porch, all swagger looking like "Yea, I'm a badass!."

I'm so happy that you survived that slobber attack of not 1, but 3 vicious labs. You're very, very luck to have survived to tell us your harrowing tale.
