Question about Plants vs. Zombies game

I finished the iPod version completely. But I'm stuck on something in the iPad version: getting the achievement for surviving 40 flags in Survival:Endless. Even after reading strategies online, the zombies overwhelm me at about 20-35 flags. My biggest problems are the Gargantuars, the digger zombies, and the dolphin rider zombies. Anyone have advice?

It seems I can't recharge the pumpkin defense fast enough, or maybe I need some cob cannons for the emergencies. I'm trying Gloom-shrooms to attack digger zombies, but they take a precious space on the lawn.
