(26,117 posts)I just got into death metal within the last couple years. Talk about !
People are shocked when they visit me in my office.
My 11 y.o. just recorded an ep of Metalocalypse on our DVR for me - LOL

(475 posts)A show this vulgar and violent should not be as god damn hilarious as it is.

(12,132 posts)sort of.... Brendan Small is a true genius. I loved his other TV show "Home Movies" so I was really excited when I heard he was gonna do a show based on metal. And it really is hilarious.
But a while back he got a band together (he actually does play metal guitar and does it well) and toured for a bit and I had a night off so I caught a show. It was a lot of fun.
DO YOU WANT SOME COFFEEEEEEEEEEE?
ETA: And I am a grandpa. But I've been listening to metal since the early 80s.

(100,087 posts)I've heard that Opeth was the basis for Dethklok, but I like to joke that they're like if Opeth had Lady Gaga's fan base and media connections.

(475 posts)Brendon DOES NOT look like he could do vocals like that. He just doesn't. To me, at least.

(26,117 posts)My 11 y.o. told me it's definitely not for kids, since the "bad guy's name is Murderface." LOL
I can't wait to check it out.

(26,117 posts)...that my kiddo recorded for me - it's the one where the bands' mothers show up (which I found ironic LOL).
All I can say is "wow" - and I'm glad I didn't let my son watch it with me.

(100,087 posts)I love the metal - but I'm more of a doom / prog fan (Symphony X, Iced Earth, Katatonia, Opeth, Tool, Iron Maiden, Dio-era Sabbath are a few of my favorites). I used to be into hardcore death stuff but I kind of got tired of it.

(26,117 posts)Saw them live a few years ago - great show!
I think the stuff I play most is referred to as "melodic death metal" - In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom, Amon Amarth, like that.
I also like prog stuff like Liquid Tension Experiment, Ozric Tentacles, and old school Prog Rock (Gong, Caravan) and Krautrock (Tangerine Dream, etc).
Now I'm off to check out Opeth... (Thanks!)
