Chris ThileThile will co-host A Prairie Home Companion alongside Keillor for several episodes, before transitioning into full-time hosting. A Companion veteran who first performed on the program more than 15 years ago, Thile previously guest-hosted the show last February, giving a performance that was said to be pleasing to the shows garrulous master. Keillor said that he expects to continue guest on the program in seasons to come, hopefully alleviating fears that beloved fictitious detective Guy Noir would be euthanized in Keillors final episode as host.

You may know him from Nickel Creek (NO! Not Nickelback! Nickel Creek)
Or, from the Punch Brothers

(55,012 posts)one of the things I have always liked about the local community radio in Tucson was the mixture of music they played. it isn't as good as it used to be - I mean they would jump around from middle eastern classical to the Stones, to local artists, to mariachi. too much shoe gazing crap and a lot of Americana now, but still better than any other radio,
(does anybody actually listen to radio anymore? sometimes I feel alone)
and of course Prairie Home Companion on Sunday mornings from me from the PBS station.

(33,688 posts)Heard Thile's ep last February and it was just fine.
But no one will ever replace Garrison. He was a true original. During my first year of grad school out east I counted the hours from Friday on until PHC aired and took me back to my Minnesota home for two hours every Saturday.

(22,256 posts)Then the format gradually changed, until it was all news, talk and NPR programs like "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me", "Car Guys", "Whaddyaknow? Not Much, You?" etc
However there was this matter of a huge music library... so a few years ago, North Texas Public Broadcasting went on the air with a second radio station which broadcasts the terrific music library formerly played by KERA They are a nice fit.
Both stations can be live streamed from apps too
