...this time it was in the form of an IV port.
Due to my medication, which has been administered on an average of once every six weeks over a period of ten years. That's a lot of pin pricks, and my veins have all been burned away over the years. So last month when it took six tries to get a vein, we all decided it was time to get the port.
However, that's not what I want to talk about. I really want to talk about the surgeon who wielded the blade this time. During our pre-op chat, he started talking about his home computer messing up on him, whereupon I mentioned that I'd owned a computer repair service for eight years and I'd be happy to do battle with his machine for him.
He accepted.
Now the question is, how much do I charge a surgeon for doing surgery on HIS stuff???

Yeah, that was funny!
I have no idea. Sorry! Glad you've got the port now. Long may it work!

(115,869 posts)I have no idea how much he should pay you for computer repairs, but don't undercharge him!

(9,999 posts)Second, advise him that he will be responsible for any co-pays and deductibles - UPFRONT!
Third, charge him for the pre-op consult you had before even doing surgery on HIS stuff.
Fourth, make him fill out endless forms for information that you could readily find on his computer.
Then, schedule an appointment in about 2-3 weeks for 6:00 am then actually see him around 9:00am.

(27 posts)I liked the idea of a professional courtesy, because that may actually get you more money than you would have asked. That works for me in certain situations. Or , think of what you would actually charge and lightly inflate the price.
