Learned that lesson when I bought some cookie mix on sale. My six-year-old niece was delighted, but I said, "No, we're not making them until some cold rainy Saturday when we don't have anything better to do." About three months later, after a Friday night of partying particularly hearty, I am awakened at 7:30AM on Saturday morning by the thundering of a rainstorm, the pounding headache of a hangover -- and the sight of my niece holding the cookie mix box!
(Of course, when the ball bounced off the frozen pond and onto the green on her previous hole, that should have been dad's tipoff that the force was with her...)

(12,132 posts)i was newly married and had 2 step-sons aged 7 and 11. one of my favorite things to do (then and now) is go to metal concerts but my wife didn't let me bring the boys. They were always bugging me about letting them come to the shows too but mom said no. Around that same time, the Monkees were experiencing a mini-revival on MTV and my kids loved that show (as do I) and on one particularly heavy-hounding day of "whyyyyyyy can't we go to the concerts tooooooooooo????" I said "OK, if the Monkees ever come in concert we'll go."
THE VERY NEXT DAY the Monkees announced a reunion tour. And that's the story of how I ended up at the St Pete Fairgrounds watching the Monkees and the Grass Roots and Gary Puckett and the Union Gap. It was a fabulous day, actually.
