Which makes me recall (endlessly) an incident with a now-replaced doctor. This was back when I was 50. There had been a spate of minor problems and I said, "What's going on, Doctor? I've always been healthy?" He had my chart in front of him so any identifying information was readily available, but he asked, "How old are you?" I said, "Fifty." He screwed up his eyes hatefully and said, "That's what fifty IS LIKE!1"

I have told this story many times (a sign of something in itself). When it was to my 90-something yr old aunt, she said, "Sweetheart, he might have been rude to you, but he was TELLING YOU THE TRUTH!1" And at the VFW somebody said, "Wait till you're SIXTY!1" And seventy. And eighty.

But when that doctor racked up another couple of incidents, I moved on to another doctor without a confrontation or scene, just requested a complete copy of my chart and never went back to him.
