some of this may be post music trauma disorder which. is as real as we believe it to be .
my personal P.M.T.D. is sad because as a musician my career was not financially fruitful ( a has been that never was ) so here goes
Led Zeppelin and the Doors. at the same time I like bands that were very much like them .

I just never got in to 'Yes'. Around the area I grew up in, it seemed to be almost a requirement to go apeshit over them. It was if not liking 'Yes' was because one was a hopeless philistine. I just personally don't care for the keyboardy/prog sound. "But they put on a GREAT show!" they would always tell me, almost to a man ( or woman ).
Whatever, I just don't care for that type of sound, studio, live replete with light shows and whatever.

(2,560 posts)LZ? I liked 3 and 4, and bits of Physical Graffiti. But that was about it.
Could never get into Dylan. Loved his songs when sung by others e.g Joan Baez.
And now I'm really going to upset a few people. I never liked The Band or The Grateful Dead. Couldn't see the attraction.
But everyone's different. I love Tom Waits, but people have left my house when I put one of his CDs on.

(23,340 posts)Every little girl in the neighborhood loves Taylor Swift. All events for kids play Taylor Swift.
Blandness everywhere. Shake it off, Taylor.

(10,237 posts)and realized even I could sing better . Maybe its the over adoration people have for these people ? .
if you find old billboard top 40 lists some real garbage has been big hits over the years .The Payola scandal of the 50s never really went away .
Taylor Swift ??????? really ? as a bass player I like all bass players even crappy ones but singers are who I really love or can't stand .

(9,527 posts)As for classic bands, I've never developed a taste for either the Beatles or Led Zeppelin.
With the Beatles, part of it is knowing what an absolute utter tool Paul McCartney is as a person and that John Lennon's views on peace didn't seem to apply at home.

(50,566 posts)Since the late 70s I've tried to get "into" his music from time to time and it just doesn't do much for me. I like a few songs, and that's about it. However, I think Bruce is a wonderful person.

(10,237 posts)sad because some of the guys probably have talent but we will never know.
did I mention Madonna ? freindahips were destroyed over her musical talents .Pop music started with cheap sheet music ,radio and then juke boxes .these are valuable antiques .

(51,311 posts)Timberlake has proven himself. And of course, Zayn (1 D) is about to launch his solo career.
But then, I don't understand your digression into "cheap sheet music......"

(3,569 posts)Journey (after their first album anyway), Sammy Hagar (and whatever band he is with) Van Halen (or any hair metal, soft metal, death metal, hard rock) The Iggles (Yep i said it, I hate the Eagles, the biggest waste of talent in history) Jope Walsh (not just for the Eagles, his career is total mediocrity) AC/DC (Again with the hard rock) Rush, ELP, Yes, Genesis, King Crimson (or any prog band NOT PHISH)

(2,404 posts)Never understood the attraction. Don't get me wrong... They are (were) an excellent band. But not to the level that would demand such over the top loyalty.
Reminds me of the Grateful Dead joke...
What did the one hippie say to the other hippie when they ran out of pot at a Grateful Dead concert?.
Man, this music sucks!

(43,182 posts)I respect Freddie Mercury's vocal range, which is incredible, but the band as a whole just comes off too overproduced for my taste.

(3,569 posts)I think you should have stuck with the "popular". So many amazing bands since then. Pearl Jam, My Morning Jacket, String Cheese Incident, Leftover Salmon, Phish, the Revivalists, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Yonder Mountain String Band, Railroad Earth, Green Day, Lettuce.. so many out there. All you gotta do is turn off the radio and go for a hunt for some great music.
