True or False: True Detective has gotten much better the past three episodes

I will go with true.

Action had picked up.

Plot is starting to make sense.

The whodunit is getting interesting, finally.

Vince Vaughn is still horrible, though. Really miscast.

I liked the most recent episode. Before that I kept questioning why I was continuing to watch. I don't care for Vince either. It's taken a long time to connect some of the dots, but it's finally happening. (or maybe I'm just slow).

This last episode was it for me. It's like the scripts were written by teddy bears and twelve-year olds. All the main characters are unsympathetic and dull with "frailties" stuck on like bandaids. The danger is not dangerous. The mystery is convoluted and boring. The only shred of continuity is that everything is repulsive and grim.

Really convoluted story line made me wonder if I was losing my marbles. I'm not sure I'll continue watching it.

... but not sure about this thing they call "plot".

So far, it's a disappointment compared to last season.

Yes, the recent episodes are better, but this show is still a chore to watch. Disappointing, compared to the masterful initial season.

as a kind of new world, libertarian, existentialist gangster... well-done...

Also, part of the point of this season (at least at the beginning) was to resist narrativity (i.e. plot). People who love plot-driven stuff were probably put-off by this.

Episode 1 and part of 2 were a mess. Since then, things have clicked.

However, I think the constant metaphor of the traffic interchange is going to point to the ending.

There will not be a 'center', or a 'revealation', but an intersection of all the disparate characters and story threads.

I just get the feeling that this series values confusion for its own sake. I'm still watching it, an I'll probably watch it all the way to the end. I just don't have much confidence the conclusion will be satisfying.

It's getting close to the conclusion, and there's not much else on Sunday nights that's worthwhile.

I have some sense of the story, but I like the acting and the grim. I think Vince does a great job, I see others disagree.

Peace

I really, really liked the first season. It would be hard to follow that one.

We'll probably end up watching it anyway, since my wife is in love with Taylor Kitsch.

So, yeah, she watches the show each week.

Not the toughest role to play, but he did come off amusingly as a small Texas town hophead and amateur philosopher. I was surprised to find out he's actually from Canada.
