Anyone purchase any of the Led Zeppelin 40th Aniversary box sets?

At first I wasn't going to do it. I mean how many more times is Jimmy Page going to reissue the Led Zeppelin albums just to profit off of us fans.

But I received Led Zeppelin II as a gift so who am I to complain over a gift?? (and it was the Super Deluxe box set at that). I didn't think anything of it and didn't even bother down loading the songs. Just wrote a lovely note saying 'Thank you' and that was that.

But as a lark I bought the Physical Graffiti Super Deluxe Box set (it's my 2nd favorite of the albums). There is some amazing bonus cuts on these releases that I'm really enjoying. In fact after digging the bonus material from Physical Graffiti all day yesterday I finally got around yesterday evening and downloaded the songs from the bonus material from LZII and really loving the stuff they put on there.

Not sure if I would go all out and get the entire series although if I did get a 3rd album it would be 'In through the Out Door' since I would actually say that is my 3rd favorite of the albums (it was the first one I ever bought on my own, the others I inherited).

Thoughts?

My sister and I bought all the albums as they came out.

We made our own cassettes out of those.

Then later I bought I, II, III, IV, HOH, PhG, and Presence on CD.

I do love extras, and if I could get those without buying the albums for a third time, I'd do it.

But I ain't buying 'em again.

I mean LZII, Physical Graffiti and In Through the Out Door are the 3 that stand far above the rest of the pack for me.

But the cash flow, not really sure. I mean if I could spend $15 bucks for the digital download of the full CD with the extras of each album I'd get the rest. But the entire box sets. Not sure.

I'm sure that it's cool packaging but I don't even own a record player. Hell I bought the CD box set of "Led Zeppelin: The Complete Studio Recordings" and the soundtrack for "The Song Remains The Same" for less than $100. Does this offer anything new?

You get a nice bound book of some photographs, articles and other memoriablia from the era which is nice. Some of the photos I had seen before, some were new. You get the 180g Albums (which is good because mine are shot) along with the 180g of the bonus material. The CDS (again mine are shot) and along with the FLAC downloads. The LE Artwork of the album cover Lithograph.

Was it worth the $110 from Amazon? I don't know. Led Zeppelin by far is my favorite band above all others. I can't see myself shelling out that much for each album just so I can get the bonus cuts. I suppose for the favorites of the collection which is II, Physical Graffiti and In Through the Out Door, maybe. (I have 2, I could see doing one more). I mean I wouldn't pay that kind of money for Coda or even Presense, 2 albums I listen to maybe once or twice a year when I get into my 'I'll listen to the entire catalog from start to finish' kick. But in reality there is nothing on either of those albums I really like that much. Oddly enough I'm not a big fan of IV even if it's considered one of the greatest albums of all time. If I had to say what my 4th favorite album was I'd probably go with Houses of the Holy or III.. Probably because Stairway to Heaven is such a turn-off for me.

But it's nice that I have the 2. I'll leave it at that for now.

And I look at it this way, in 10 years Jimmy Page will just put out something even more spectatular for the 50th aniversary

It's way too easy to download them on my phone then sync them to my iPad and laptop.

I recently started playing with Apple Music and I don't know when I'll even buy another one. You can have access to everything on their service for $9.99 a month after the 3 month trial. It's pretty convenient to have access to all that music and have a car that streams via Bluetooth from your phone.

I will by CD for special collection reason. The Damien Rice was a limited edition wooded etched case from his last release. The Plant came from purchasing a concert ticket. Also CDs are nice to have autographed at concerts. I have ones from Carbon Leaf and Ben Taylor (James Taylor and Carly Simon's kid). Might even toss that Plant CD in my bag for the upcoming concert. But as a rule I mainly do downloads but lately I've bought vinyl lately including both from Father John Misty, Damien Rice, Robert Plant and others.
