(36,827 posts)What you see is an area of convective clouds pouring down rain in a relatively small area.
From below on a day with a lot of puffy white clouds, mostly what you see are the flat bottoms. The tops tend to be of varying sizes with some towering thousands of feet into the air with many not nearly so tall. So if you are flying in between you get to fly around the tall ones constantly banking from one direction and the other to avoid flying through them. It's a blast and the view is incredible.
