We're going carless!

I've got the SEPTA old fart card so I ride the buses and subway in Philadelphia for free and Regional Rail for $1 a trip.

Philadelphia started up with bicycle sharing - $15 a month and that means I get to use the pretty good rental bikes as many times a day as needed for an hour per trip. My cost per ride since I started is now less than a dollar a trip and going down with every ride.

Mrs GoS has her own city bike.

There are plentiful taxis in Philadelphia

And if we need a car, single day rentals are pretty cheap.

All that being said, we're selling our 2000 Saab 9-3.

PM me if interested and I can send pictures.

The price is much reduced because of rust issues in the rear wheel wells and some oil leaks.

It does help that my daily bus ride is 36 cents.

But, living in the Phoenix Metro area means needing a car, sadly.
Our "public transit" system, to put it mildly, sucks ass.

I've been carfree for 7 years now. It's not always easy but I've survived and am probably much healthier for it. Plus, no more insurance, gas, oil, tires, and etc.

that I have to give up my car. Hopefully I'll be dead before then. I live in L.A. and I love my car and love driving. I can't stand being too close to people so public trans sucks for me. I guess if you grow up with it, you get used to it. My dad and I used to collect and retsore cars so they are such a big thing to me. Enjoy! Sounds like you will save some big $$

I live in southern California where the streets are always over-clogged with cars. The drivers are nuts. If you leave half a car space in front of you, there's always someone forcing their way in front of you. There always seems to be a car ahead of you, behind you, and on either side. The drivers always seem to be tail-gating, following you inches from your rear bumper. And the drivers are extremely aggressive and crazy. A couple days ago, I negligently forgot to turn off my turn signal. I know it was forgetful of me. A driver on my left got enraged with me, gave me the finger, honked, and drove in front of me. stopping his car in the middle of the road to force me to stop. This kind of insane asylum craziness happens every once in a while. Drivers are stressed to the breaking point. It's no way to live your life, stuck in traffic all the time. In my opinion, going by horse and buggy as in the old days was more efficient and civilized.

Last drove someone else's car in 1992. Been on a bike ever since and haven't looked back.
