...it didn't sound like the "battery was dead" when he started his 'project'. Nor did it look like "the battery was dead" when he almost set himself on fire.
I didn't get all that physics mumbo-jumbo about why it should work, but that is because right off the bat, it sounded like A Solution in Search of a Problem. The template of free market science.

just missing the juice to start the car. This could solve that problem.
I wouldn't carry a case of AA's around, though, because that isn't that common.

Maybe park facing down hill, have a friend or stranger push start your car with their car bumper-to-bumper, or gather together a group of friends, acquaintances, or strangers.
Kids my age were still mobile even when their car batteries or starter motors wore out.
Or, there's the Russian way:
