I just landed my first professional writing gig.

It happened kind of by accident. I was going through some help wanted ads looking for something I could do with my degree besides roll it up and smoke it, and I ran across a guy who was looking for writers to contribute to his new web site. I sent him some of my stories and he liked what he saw. He wants non-fiction stories and articles about current events right now with more categories to be added in the future.

There is no pay for anyone at the site yet, but there is a plan in place to make that happen in the future. When we get up and running, I'll provide a link. He's thinking we should be ready by August.

I'm going to like doing this and maybe I'll be able to make a little money at it as well. I got up at 4 this morning, emailed off a short bio and a picture to the site's owner, and have written two articles. It's been a while since I've been able to write like that. I guess I just needed some motivation.

Another thing you'll soon be considering (with your freshly minted academic credentials), are the vagaries of the Copyright Law. You may want to lay it all out there and walk away from 'it', or you may want to, in some way, protect your intellectual property rights.

I guess it depends on how you feel about other people making YOUR words their own. It's an interesting dilemma but your experience as a truck driver will serve you well.
