I've just started to really get into Tweeter for following politics...some interesting tweet skirmishes going on with the RW tweeters...Eric Boehlert is on fire.

2. Couple of things I've learned

(1) there are a lot of bots that will ask to follow you...not sure they are even people...don't bother
(2) Search on hashtags, like: #whatever to find streams that interest you. Hashtags can become very popular, very quickly, like #gamechange....use them to get exposure...otherwise, you'll be tweeting to yourself.
(3) If you want to post directly to a twitter user(s) use @twittername...you can look them up in a directory if you don't know. I did this with Racheal Maddow's twitter name and she (or her team) retweeted my comment.

I don't have an Facebook account, either. My former co-worker said I should start an anti-social network. I said sure, but then if somebody else joined, I'd have to quit.

6. I'm probably following too much

Keep getting hit with spam "follow" requests but I have my account protected so, unless it's a person I actually know, I just go in and promptly delete them out ("decline&quot . I also use Rockmelt browser (an excellent one) so I get pop up notifications whenever a tweet and/or facebook post comes in. The one annoyance is that I supposedly have all retweets off but I still get tweets/re-tweets from persons I'm not following but only via the Rockmelt browser, not on my regular Twitter feed. I really like Twitter but it is sometimes difficult to organize a thought into 140 characters or less. OTOH I think that's not necessarily a bad thing and helps me learn how to get to the point of what I'm saying better than a blog entry and/or facebook post.

8. I've got a handful of local news reporters & politicians to track local issues.

Twitter is a pretty good tool to track things locally, especially during our legislative sessions.
