(6,261 posts)Stick shift drivers are forced to be more alert and also don't have a hand free to operate a cell phone.
That's my opinion and I'm unanimous in that.

(4,033 posts)but age, knee replacement & a bad broken hip repair disallows it. My last stick was a 4 speed Jeep CJ7.

(1,137 posts)Power steering should be outlawed and we should bring back the standard of the steering wheel being the same diameter as the wheel rims.
Let' see those jacked up trucks with mudders and cruisers with low-pro 24's get into the driver's seat.

(28,762 posts)I see no real advantage to doing away with power steering. I can't imagine how hard it would be to mow my yard without it on my Kubota tractor.

(46,192 posts)and almost definitely take away the ability of amputees to drive a rental car.
and maybe you didn't think of that.
and why would you think of the disabled before making a grand pronouncement?
that would complicate the decision, taking them into consideration.
and no, you can't grant an exemption, it would make automatics a costly aftermarket add on.
think of how many veterans you would affect and prevent from driving.

(18,497 posts)I've driven a car where the power steering was just busted for a time.
The only time it was difficult at all was when parking.
