The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI don't mind these 'what's the best' or 'number one' threads TOO much,
but sometimes I feel like it's like asking 'what's your favorite slice of pizza?' I can't pick just one!

(11,833 posts)I noticed it particularly on the 'favorite Beatles album thread.' I love them all. Right after I voted for The White Album, I noticed Let It Be has no votes and I wanted to show it some love. Of course Revolver, Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper, same thing. And Rubber Soul. That one is great too. I don't want to live without them all.
That's what's so great about music, pizza and sex. I can't pick a favorite. They're all great.

(21,020 posts)as we get older, we hear more and more music, read more books, see more movies and/or TV, and it's not like when we're five years old and there are only a small handful of things we've experienced so it's easy to pick a favorite from them.
I mean, really...I have over 60 years of listening to music, for example, under my belt. Not easy to pick a favorite from literally thousands of songs.
Even colors are hard. I like red. But also teal and some (but not all) shades of blue. And certain shades of brown.
There are too many interesting things in this world to pick just one

(1,893 posts)I have a strange compulsion to make lists, and when I see "what's your favorite xxxx..." or "name your top 3 xxxx....", without making a conscious choice to do so my brain immediately starts collating possible answers. Sometimes I have to step back and say, hey, school was over long ago and this isn't an assignment. You don't have to stress about making the right choices.
But I must enjoy it on some level as I'm always drawn to these threads.

(11,833 posts)I do that in my head too. They rarely correspond with Oscars or Grammies lists. Sometimes, like with Beatles lists, I just kind of go: I wouldn't want to live without any of that great music. Same goes for different kinds of pizza.
