About once a week I'll burn an hour on ebay Motors looking at old cars that I have absolutely no intention of buying.

(5,692 posts)for days, (which eventually turned into a couple of weeks) and I complained to my son, who had showed me the game to start with. He replied that I was not being ZEN enough to play. Later I believe he told me he was stuck in a level for 4 weeks.

(10,558 posts)If I were to add up the time....I'm thinking at least a year of my life, maybe even years. In my defense, I was a pot grower, my lack of economic success in this career and the need for security meant lots and lots of time spent at home. I still play video games, enjoy the hell out of them but due to a recent economic turnaround I get out a bit more.

(12,160 posts)for my mini fairy garden dioramas. Here are pictures of the tea set and snack bowls & trays I made yesterday out of acorns and pinecone petals. I got the idea from the web. The saucers and trays are covered with moss to hold the cups and bowls upright. The white stuff under the moss in the first picture is glue. It dried clear and doesnt show now. Making silly crafts like these is a complete waste of time. Knowing that is depressing, and Im trying to quit. I really am.

(38,334 posts)It's an elaboration upon Sturgeon's Law. Nearly all jobs are crap. Our "consumer society" blows chunks. What we call "economic productivity" is a direct measure of the damage we do to the earth's natural environment and our human spirit.
The world would be a much better place if people spent more time taking care of children and frail old people, telling stories, listening to stories, reading and writing books, teaching what we know, learning what we don't, tending organic gardens, having good safe consensual sex (but not too many children!) or simply walking about, maybe hand in hand talking and enjoying this fine earth.
The things that tend to be called "a waste of time" are usually much less wasteful than the destructive activities we call "work."
