Theyve tried over and over again to retool this show. I have been a viewer for a very long time. I dislike the Today show's crew. I stopped with GMA when they got Stepenapolis. Morning Joe is not even an option.
Hence, for me, CBS.
But Gayle King is totally off putting to me. She comes off as completely forced, phoney, insincere, affected, and self absorbed.
I just don't get Charlie Rose. I like Erica Hill.
Who makes these hiring decisions?
And why did they ever get rid of Harry Smith and Maggie Rodriguez?

(21,020 posts)Back years ago when she was with Channel 3 News out of Hartford, CT, she had a totally unrehearsed and spontaneous moment.
It was during a news broadcast as a large winter storm was raging in 1995.
She was putting out a plea for people to donate blood at the local Red Cross, and she was trying her best to make it all seem very not-scary, explaining...
"It's just a little prick"
That's when she stopped, her eyes wide open and a look of terror on her face...
hahahahahhaha!!!!
Maybe that moment was so traumatic for her she vowed to never be spontaneous again...

(25,415 posts)She was actually well liked and always down to earth and involved in the community here. So when I watch her on CBS, it is very comfortable for me. I have been watching her on tv since I was a kid.

(72,790 posts)from before to now. A bit different set?
I don't like King either but I still watch CBS. Don't like Today, and GMA has become too TMZish.

(5,909 posts)I'm from CT and remember when she was a local newscaster back in the day. All I can say is that she is so fucking lucky that her best friend is Oprah.
I watch GMA---love Robin Roberts---but only from 7 to 7:10--just to catch the headlines. All the rest is stupid shit I don't care about.

(28,394 posts)I watched some of it a couple of times. Erica Hill used to be so cute and witty on AC 360, but she just seems out of place on this snoozer. Don't care for Gayle King and Charlie Rose puts me to sleep.
I usually watch Washington Journal on C-span. If it is boring, I turn on GMA until they go to frivolous topics.

(135,425 posts)Totally different--lots of fun and craziness; kind of like the Daily Show and Colbert, only maybe a bit less political, some prizes where they'd sneak up on people and wake 'em up at the asscrack of dawn (they'd show the van going down the street, knock on the door, the people would be half asleep and the kids jumping around in their knickers, all kinds of goofy stuff)....they'd do news, then maybe a crazy interview....it was very lighthearted and amusing. I liked it on a dull, dreary day. The colors were Very Bright And Cheery!
I think the whole CBS exercise seems ... pained, to me. I don't like it much. I watch NECN sometimes, and flip a lot. Eh...!

(1 post)I can't stand Gayle and I have sent notes to CBS she is horrible....and I watched her destroy an interview with Morgan Freeman and that was the end of it. I will not watch the show with her on it she is horrible. Today thank God she was off so I could and even Charlie was happy and singing....I swear he and Erica have to know how terrible she is.

(1 post)You are not alone in your opinion of Gayle King. She conducts herself as if her opinion is what people are watching the show to see. There is plenty of entertainment television with the main focus being the thoughts and opinions of the cast. I don't watch it but plenty of people do. How she was cast on this show can only be because of the power of Oprah. Gayle conducts herself as if this is her version of the Oprah Show. How they could boot Erica Hill and keep her is quite perplexing to me. Gayle is suited to a show like The Talk.
Ironically, I stopped watching CNN for the same reasons. I will no longer be watching any morning news on television. The internet will likely be my primary source. I am sad that I cannot find a show that values impartiality when presenting the news or interviewing guests. In good journalism, the news or the guest should be the focus, not the journalist.
