Pre-ER it was the furthest thing from my mind.

It looked like raw meat. I could see bone. I'm lucky there's no tendon or nerve damage.

not realizing my dog was underfoot and catching myself on a knife in the dishrack.

dog is unhurt, at least.

A straight cut, without torn or jagged edges is easier to stitch and heal. Eek, I have to be more careful about leaving knives in the dishrack. Glad the dog is unhurt.

In retrospect, even half an inch to one side or the other and I likely would've been in way worse shape. Could've hit an artery or cut a tendon, etc, but I didn't.

It happened so fast, too (cliche, I know). From tripping on the dog to bleeding on everything was about a second, maybe. I would like to have that second back.
