I have a dumb question about the history of sex

when in human history did sex become immoral and dirty?
If sex had always been thought of as something shouldn't do, well, we wouldn't be here would we.

Honestly i have never read the bible nor do I have any desire to. I doubt the bible has enough influence to make sex seem immoral across all cultures anyway. Besides, other cultures do not seem to be as hung up about sex as western culture is.

So when did sex go from being something that we did to perpetuate the species to what is considered to be something that is immoral and disgusting except only in narrow confines. Was there an actual change moment?

And now that I have written this I am guessing it will get locked, but I am really curious.

that have sex that is not always related to reproduction. Bonobos and whatever the other one is don't seem to have any shame or such related to sex.

It's only natural to think of these things when spring awakens the beauty of rebirth after winter's brutal cold.

14. And whatever you do, don’t have sex on stairs

“A child that was begat upon a set of stair is most likely to be born with a crooked back and given in no small way to the fault of staring.”

Okay, got it. No sex while tired, only perform it begrudgingly, claim incontinence if your husband tries to get “freaky” by kissing you, don’t have sex on stairs, don’t sneeze, cough, flirt, or east mustard, and come at the precise moment that your husband does. Phew. If that seems like a lot to remember, especially for the poor Victorians who had basically zero sexual knowledge and experience, just wait — there’s more.

the fact that the various religions all seem to have a common belief that the sexual allure of women causes a lot of headaches for men, therefore, having sex with a woman is going to cause you serious problems.

Catharism had an extremely liberal view on sex and didn't have any problems with contraception, sex for pleasure, homosexuality and masturbation, some things that deeply disturbed the Christian church. The Christian church sought to have Catharism wiped out because it empowered women as when it viewed women as an impediment to men, along with its other misbegotten beliefs that still prevail today.

Also interesting to learn about is the concept of Courtly Love. It is the root of romance really... whereas before this concept marriage and partnerships were simply for convenience, there wasn't much emotion involved in it at all... roots in the 11th century I think.

This is my stake in the concept that romantic love is little more than our imagination, as are most emotions. It has little to do our basic anthropological functions, other than initial attraction that's somewhat needed for reproduction. My views aren't popular however, so I'll just stop there.

But it all comes down to religious beliefs, apparently pretty much all of them! So, logically, the idea that sex is dirty and forbidden comes from men's imagination.

“With them she had her playful game”

The Performance of Gender and Genre
in Ulrich
von Lichtenstein’s
Frauendienst

She was still on her horse, that paragon; many knights and
pages were standing next to her. It was with them she had her
playful game. I held the stirrup for her. She said: “You are not
strong enough, you won’t be able to lift me down. You are weak,
and worthless on top of it.” People laughed at the joke there.

The Song of Solomon celebrates the physical aspect of the love between a man and his wife.

In general, most religions only teach that sex is dirty if it is devoid of love. In other words, just using another person for your sexual pleasure, with no concern for their feelings or for the possible consequences, is wrong.

I tend to agree with that, but then again, I'm am something of a prude.

I was raised in a fundamental baptist church and, while they certainly never got graphic, their main stance was that what a man and woman married to each other do in private is lovely and OK. Of course, anything outside of those parameters was hellfire and abomination. (And in our church, it was a big help if the two married people were the same race.) (And not previously married and divorced).

Personally I feel that sex is fun. Love need not be a requirement but mutual like helps. As long as all parties are amenable, have at it however y'all like.
