Roy Orbison's last U.S. top 40 hit

A song with the seemingly unhip title of Twinkle Toes reached no. 39 on Billboard in 1966. It also reached no. 24 in Australia and no. 29 in the U.K. Orbison was even more popular in England than he was here. Twinkle Toes, about a pretty go-go dancer who has to perform for customers with a smile, despite having a broken heart was Orbison's attempt to become a little more psychedelic with the fuzztone guitar. When I spent a year in France from 1965 to 66 I used to listen to top 40 radio from England and this song was played every 10 minutes for awhile.

I've been thinking about Roy Orbison lately, what with that Geico Commercial that constantly plays on my TV about the "free-range" chicken on which we hear the lovely Orbison hit Ride Away.

ON EDIT: Here's the original Orbison tune that provides the background music for the Geico free range chicken, if you haven't heard it.

...was a "deep album track" from his final album, "Mystery Girl," called "Careless Heart." The song "You Got It" was the HIT, but "Careless Heart" was the song that proved Roy died with his BOOTS on.

"If not for my careless heart
You'd still be loving me
If not for my careless heart
You'd still be mine
I wouldn't have this hurt inside
I wouldn't have these tears to cry..."

All of the drama and "raw nerve" heartache found in his CLASSIC hits.

You may have seen it but always worth hearing again. Check the others in the performance. Fantastic!

I have the technology to transfer the home videos to DVD, but have been too lazy to do it yet. Someday I will share a real cute video of them hanging out to this.

Gosh they grow up so quick.
