Native Houstonian here, transplanted to East Jesus and miserable without things to do.

I hate all sports too. Always have! All I cared about in high school was orchestra.

I scored 120. So I'm pretty weird.

At least you can get DU in East Jesus. Houston has been good to me. HISD hired 29% of my graduating class in 1980 from my teachers' college in Cambridge. My family is totally snotty about me living in Bushland. Most of them live in Vermont which is the anti Texas in every way.

I have been to New York and Boston, once had a boyfriend in grad school at MIT on a scholarship, and I met him at U of Houston many years ago. New England really is another planet.

I can get DU but boy do I miss Houston. HGO is doing the Ring Cycle, one opera a year in April for four years. Last year it was Das Rheingold and this year it's Die Walkure. Extremely avant-garde weird productions that I enjoyed. I miss Houston and all the fun you can have there. Yeah, it's crowded and humid and the traffic is terrible, but for me it's HOME.

Actually I have seen WORSE traffic in Dallas. I thought it couldn't get worse than Houston, but Dallas is really full of traffic idiots. Besides, Dallas can only think about being as cool as Houston, culturally.

I have to go to Houston or Dallas to go to concerts of all kinds so I don't go nuts. Last trip out was seeing Sting in Dallas in January. Had to stay a couple of days to do some shopping as well. Your shopping choices here are "Wal-Mart". I really am in the middle of nowhere. If there was a college town nearby that would help. But no. It's at least an hour to anyplace with a college, or a Target store. And as far as friends here, forget it. When you're a white Democrat and non-religious, there isn't anyone to talk to.
