The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy grandmother, my first of two teachers, is dying tonight.
She and my other grandmother- who died in 2003- taught me to be who I am. I learned Latin from my grandma, the love of reading and curiosity from both grandmothers, and this (my Italian) grandma taught me how to cook everything from scratch and with love.
She has Lewy-Body Dementia and is dying. It's a blessing really, as she is truly suffering. I got off a plane from Costa Rica and had a message from my mom. So I drove to the hospital instead of going to my home.
I'd appreciate some good thoughts for my family for comfort and for my grandma for a smooth passage.
Thanks

(55,019 posts)losing grandparent threads really get to me. Like you I was privileged to have all but one well into my adult life. I feel so sad that my kids did not get to experience that.
May yours go peacefully and with no more suffering.

Much love and comfort to you at this sad, emotionally draining time. It's never easy even when you are expecting it.
I always like to remind about something Skittles said awhile ago: "someone's always here." You aren't alone. You don't sit in this vigil alone. You won't grieve alone either. Please keep us informed. People care about you here.

(9,298 posts)for many of us (you included, a la izquierda) personify equal portions of wisdom and love. It is so hard to say good-bye to them. May you find some comfort in knowing that you are as much a blessing to her as she is to you. Peace and calm to you and your family in the days ahead.
