Swallows Return to San Juan Capistrano Day The miracle of the "Swallows" of Capistrano takes place each year at the Mission San Juan Capistano, on March 19th, St. Joseph's Day.

As the little birds wing their way back to the most famous Mission in California, the village of San Juan Capistrano takes on a fiesta air and the visitors from all parts of the world, and all walks of life, gather in great numbers to witness the "miracle" of the return of the swallows.

14. If you're anywhere where you can drive on either I-81 or I-40, it's a LOT longer than that

I'm now in the Rheinland area of northwestern Germany. You'd have to drive to Nome, Alaska, get someone to ferry you across the Bering Strait, and then drive across Siberia and European Russia, and finally get here a few exhausted weeks later. 23 hours and 31 minutes from central Sweden or the north of Sicily maybe?

We have barn swallows here. They soar like little jet planes. They are great insect controllers, too! I love them.
