(53,410 posts)It scared me to death! In bed later I pulled the blankets up over my head and laid there as quietly as I could so they wouldn't see that anyone was in the bed if the aliens came in. Scared. To. Death.
Ah! What fond memories!

(2,682 posts)The Heiress -- 1949, Olivia DeHavilland, Montgomery Clift. I've lost count how many times I've seen it. It was remade in 1997 into Washington Square with Jennifer Jason Leigh, but never did reach the depth of the original.

I've seen three of his most famous films and consider them some of the best black & white movies ever made. Metropolis, M, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse. I'd like to see the other Mabuse films, but haven't gone looking, yet.
Here's the full movie on YouTube, and it's worth the two hours of your life
Fellini's masterpiece. Beautiful B&W cinematography and the music score by Nino Rota. Haunting images stay with you. I can watch it over and over.

Andy Griffith says "Fuck." And not in the casual flippant give a fuck way. This is a broad side, full frontal use. I about fell off the couch.
ailsagirl
(22,899 posts)about this film is the fact that this was Griffith's film debut. The juxtaposition between his arrogant and immoral movie character and the kind and laid-back Sheriff Taylor is astonishing! And equally convincing. The theme still resonates today--even more so.

ailsagirl
(22,899 posts)Thanks for the background. Murrow was way before my time (yours too, I'm sure), but his reputation is legendary. JFK was so impressed with him that he appointed Murrow head of the United States Information Agency. This was seen as a vote of confidence in the agency, which provided the official views of the government to the public in other nations. The USIA had been under fire during the McCarthy era, and Murrow brought back at least one of McCarthy's targets, Reed Harris.
