So a long time ago I had two cats named Tyro and Rex (from the dinosaur, of course). Now I have two cats named Cocoa and Mocha. We just adopted a puppy that we have named Chai. If we adopt another, it will be named Latte to finish out the cafe menu.
Anyone else name multiple pets using a common theme? Please tell me that I am not unusual in this practice.

(34,136 posts)The name fit that cat since the first time I picked him up he climbed to the top of my head.
Later my husband and I named other climbing kittens Edmund, and Hillary. My current cat is named Tashi, for Tenzing Norgay's grandson though unlike his namesake, Tashi is not a climber.

(2,682 posts)Given their pitiable beginnings, I gave them dignified names:
Sir Reginald von Feline
Sir Frederick von Feline
Lady Alexandra von Feline
They all had long lives. Reg died at 16, Fred at 17 and Alex at 18. They've been gone quite a while now but I still think of them fondly.

Pinkus Catterman (he was pink or cameo)
Pink Floyd (he was also pinkish or an apricot Siamese mix)
Kiri had three kittens whom I named Huey, Dewey and Louie. Dewey, who turned out to be female, stayed with me and became Dempsey (don't question the logic of that because I don't know). Dempsey spawned Pinkus. Huey and Louie went to another good home and lived happy lives as the brothers they were.

(16,383 posts)Unfortunately, we are now stuck with a cat named "Lance". I want to change his name to Vance, but no one else will go along. Oh well. He's a great cat, too; doesn't deserve the name.

Bruce turned out to be the dearest dog I've ever known, my sweet Brucie.

Bennie has gone on to the Great Infinite Sky, so now I have only Jerry with me.
Raven
(13,893 posts)we named her Gypsy because she was a rescue that had been in a number of homes until she came to us. She was a beautiful black lab collie mix who lived to a ripe old age. I then got a Labradoodle and I named her "Tinker" which is another name for gypsies in Ireland. A year later I got another Labradoodle and named her "Shelta" which is the word for gypsy in Gaelic. I think I've about run out of names in this particular theme.

(2,015 posts)Named Raven and Symone.
The joke was when I got Symone (she is older by a year) that since the other cat I had at the time was getting older it was like on the Cosby show when they brought the younger, cuter kid in to replace Rudy. Symone is a tri-colored tabby so Raven didn't really fit. About a year later my older cat passed away and a coworker asked if I could take in a kitten that had been dropped off at her house, she already had 8 cats and 3 dogs. The kitten was totally black so I welcomed Raven (the younger cuter kitten) in to the fold.

(3,208 posts)after Ozzie Smith of the St. Louis Cardinals. Shortly, we got a female cat and named her "Harriet". Ozzie passed on long before Harriet, so the kids only knew of him through family lore. Harriet was the old lady cat to the kids by the time she passed on.
While in school, our youngest child learned of the Ozzie and Harriet show and was shocked to hear these names, thinking they were just the names of some old cats her parents had.
Originally I wanted to name Harriet "Pat the Cat" because I got her from my boss, Pat. But my husband convinced me since we already had Ozzie we should have Harriet. I think the kids would have had more fun with the name "Pat the Cat"!
