How many here live in buildings that originally weren't for housing?

I live in an apartment that originally was 2 hotel rooms.

The building was a 8-room motel, built in the early 70's.
The motel failed, due to a larger one (many rooms) being built nearby.

So instead of letting the building deteriorate or tearing it down, the 8 hotel rooms were converted into 4 apartments.

I enjoy living here, I've been here now 23 years.

One bedroom, and my kitchen/media room.

Closet in bedroom that's fairly large, bathroom, washroom with washer and dryer, little more storage and a water heater.

Oh, it still uses the old gas space heaters for heating, they work fine.

a 12 x 12 foot hunting cabin in the early 1960s

Water came from an uphill spring. Electricity was just barely enough to power a toaster and a couple of lights.

The owner then gradually added on...a small galley kitchen...bathroom...second floor bedroom.

When Mr Pipi and I bought it in 1996, the entire house was a little over 800 sq. ft.

Over the years we added a master bedroom and bath, a cellar rec room, and added a sun porch. Now it's over double the size

It was a steal when I bought it, the floor plan is bizarre and there were zoning problems for any other non-residential use. I converted the recital room into an apartment for my parents. Their house was all stairs, they couldn't get out of bed and get to the bathroom without hitting stairs.

Come retirement I might tear the place down and start-over,
