(28,394 posts)They are all corgis. Two are elderly and the "puppy" just turned 4. As much as I would love another one one day ..... well, as you implied, a new dog could outlive me now.
What kind is the one you were offered? If it is an adult dog, you should be OK. Yes? No? Maybe? It's a big decision and you know best what you can take on.

(5,604 posts)and they were big dogs (2 shepherds and a rottweiler). But if the 15 year commitment is a real consideration, than that's what I'd base the decision upon.

(50,566 posts)1. It's hard for senior pets to find homes. We adopted an older cat to join our brood and are so glad we did.
2. The "will s/he outlive me?" worry isn't as critical with a senior pet.
