During the 70's I took a marine mechanics class taught by Bob Berryhill a guitarist from the Safari's.

(21,925 posts)but a lot of surf bands played this tune in the 60s. The Ventures did a cover version in 1962 as well as The Surfaris. The original instrumental was by the English group The Shadows recorded in 1960. The video has a cool look.

(54,408 posts)Their "Surfing" album contained just a string of perfect "mood" pieces that captured the spirit more perfectly than any other album I ever heard, and I heard all the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean records that were out at the time.
