DU Album of the Day: The Beach Boys - "Pet Sounds"

I'm still amazed that this is actually the 11th album put out by the band but let's face it - it's their absolute best. Rolling Stones Magazine lists this as the #2 album of all time (probably topped by something by the Beatles).

I think what really pops about this album is the amazing harmonies that are blended throughout the record. I can't even think of another group that could rival the Beach Boys in regards to harmonizing!

So please enjoy today's AOTD!

all the way through when they were in their teens. Nuff said, methinks.

The game of "top this" that Brian Wilson was playing with Lennon, McCartney and George Martin in the mid-1960s is even more boggling 45 years on than it was then.

And "Caroline, No" is one of the greatest heartbreak songs EVAH!

The Beach Boys and The Beatles were both geniuses in innovative recording and concepts at the time.

Do you remember the Doonesbury cartoon where the gay character dies and has Pet Sounds playing as he does? I cried like a baby.

Andy Lippencott. That was the Doonesbury character's name. He might be right. This might be the way to go. I actually finished my novel while in a house way out in the woods with this music and a DVD of Carnivale to keep me from getting too loopy.
