It just fell off my finger somewhere on a half acre of snow.

(149,629 posts)I'm really sorry to hear this.
I hope you find it when the snow melts. Yeah, right...when.

(8,976 posts)...And get someone with a metal detector to search for it once the snow depth allows...

(51,308 posts)I know how horrible that feels.
But, I've also found things that I thought I never would. So think positive!

(130,964 posts)Get one of those metal detectors, people use them on beaches often, I hear, and search after the snow has melted.
ALL is NOT lost, we promise!

I agree with the above suggestions to mark your area (now).

We were able to find it with a metal detector.
If your is snow is frozen like mine is, it may be laying on top. Maybe you'll be able to spot it if the sun catches it just right.
Good luck.

(7,906 posts)I don't know if there is one near you, or what the cost involved is, but I figured I'd post this.

And whodda thunk you could spend 2 grand on a detector.

It can happen.

(11,770 posts)About 25 years ago while I was mowing, I busted my neck chain that held my open-rose/diamond pendant (14k antiqued yellow gold/.35k diamond). I searched daily for hours upon hours, for more than two weeks. It was spring, so there were dew drops and snail trails that all reflected like a diamond... then one day while I was squatting and searching, I saw what was sure just another snail trail, but it wasn't. It was my pendant on-end, and what I was seeing was the V gold bail.
After I found it that day, I went down to our jeweler for a new sturdier chain and a locking clasp. It's now 35 years and counting that my rose has been around my neck and close to my heart.
Don't give up!

Seriously, read all the other posts. There's some great ideas on finding it.

It sounds like your situation is much more hopeful, though, so I am sending good vibes your way.

(21,020 posts)great ideas here, which I'm sure one of them will work to help you find your ring.
Back in the 70s I ended up losing my high school ring while on a hayride in the fall. My fingers shrink and expand with the seasons. So on a hayride we were throwing handfuls of hay around, and when I hurled some, my ring flew off my finger.
Well it was nighttime. In the woods.
My ring is likely gone forever unless someone finds it with a metal detector and takes the trouble to look me up (using my initials carved inside the ring) in my class yearbook.
Anyway, knowing that my fingers do strange things with the weather, I now wear inexpensive tungsten bands to keep my rings on. One size for winter, one size for summer.
Hope you find your ring. I know how terrible it feels to lose one, and getting a replacement just isn't the same.
