OK old people

Do any of you have a VERY difficult time seeing after looking at a phone, pad or computer for a while?

I have great vision for close up tjings. A little nearsightedness but not enough for glasses (or so I tell myself) But this is horrible. After a couple hours I can't see anything clearly. Not at any distance.

Has this ever happened to you?

Many many years ago (1980's), my optometrist told me about the dangers of continuous viewing a monitor.

Follow the 20-20-20 rule by looking away from your computer screen every 20 minutes at a spot 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

61 here. I guess this must just be aging eye muscles? I have not asked yet but have an eye appointment coming up and plan to. I do some puzzles and if I spend too much time I can't focus on anything for a while. I hate it but it is just another thing I guess.

I was hoping it was some easily treated something else.

We can dream, can't we?

Good luck at your appointment

when I find out something, not sure when my appointment is but I will ask because it is very annoying. It just started happening too.

I find that if I do online puzzles and just don't do the hardest (smallest) level it is not as bad. The fact that for a while it only seems to be a quickly resolving issue when I am only reading or doing computer work or the occasional puzzle and takes a long time to correct if I am on much longer working with smaller or more intense things makes me think it is muscle related and most likely something that occurs with age.

I found this at a Vision site and it makes sense to me considering the type of light intensity that comes from our screens along with the smaller images we have to look at.

"Reduced pupil size. As we age, muscles that control our pupil size and reaction to light lose some strength. This causes the pupil to become smaller and less responsive to changes in ambient lighting." from All About Vision http://www.allaboutvision.com/over60/vision-changes.htm

Thanks so much. I hope everything goes well at the doctor. Maybe some exercise for the eyes, which is a real thing, will help.

What you described is exactly what I go through

Except after looking at the phone or ipad for awhile

I need a new eye doctor. This was my eye doctor for years. I was interviewed by the reporter but they have taken the story on the TV news down.

9. You might need reading glasses...

for close up things. You'll find a rack of them at any drugstore, and they're generally not expensive. Almost everybody gets far sighted after 40 or so. And, I can say from experience, that does not mean that any near-sightedness you may have goes away. It somehow doesn't work that way.

I wore glasses for near-sightedness since 3rd grade. After about 42 I badly needed bi-focals. I never could get used to tri-focals. The field of view for each lens section was just too small, and I found I got neck strain from trying to hold my head in one position for too long.

Then, at about 60, my cataracts got so bad I had the surgery done. Since then, my distance vision is 20/20 but I still need reading glasses for the close stuff. I have several pair for different distances. The Dollar stores around here actually have cheap reading glasses, so you can get them cheap.

Best of luck. Sight is prescious. Take care of it.

It has to do with muscles or dryness or something like that. When I start out, I see perfectly.

But I guess I will have to find a new eye doctor and find out for sure

By all means see a doctor. I would never advocate doing anything based on an on-line diagnosis. Often, the doctor will tell you things you didn't expect.

But at the age of 75 last year, I had cataract surgery. Now I am far-sighted and need reading glasses for anything that I have to view up close. Yes, reading glasses are cheap at drug stores and dollar stores, which is good for me because I keep misplacing or losing them.

Hee hee

Sorry about that. I guess that's the problem. Let's do a class action suit against monitor companies.
