Seriously, how often have you seen a Royal Flush or any other hand that always turns up in gambling movies?

(3,747 posts)Best I've done is an 8- or 9-high straight flush (heck if I remember) and a couple of 4 of a kinds. I know a couple people who have gotten them (and who aren't prone to lying haha).
But I agree with what you're saying. They never really reflect reality. Then again, just about any movie about gambling isn't going to reflect the soul-sucking addiction-riddled money-making industry that is the casino and state lottery pact.

(14,400 posts)it was when we were teenagers playing over at a friends house for matchsticks.
The game was five card draw and the look on his face when he pulled up his draw cards is something I'll never forget. I don't remember the suit or even who all was there but it was something else. His poker face was lacking, I don't think he ever made it as a pro.
I was dealing so I know the deck wasn't stacked and the look of utter shock on his face told everyone that he wasn't some kind of ace cheater.

(1,232 posts)maybe a dozen. They are very rare! Mostly it's pairs, 2 pairs and trips, then straights. I tend to play flushes more than straights, but will bet big on either possibility.
No one ever said them movies is real!

We love getting together and playing. Just nickel and dime stuff.....but love the idea of playing and a royal flush has showed up once.....ONCE. We took pictures of it.....and the hand she won??? was like, 4 dollars. A freaking Royal Flush gets 4 dollars. ha ha ha.

(2,831 posts)Is so much fun! All the different players from all around the world. One time, The dealer and I were the only people at the table who could speak english. The other plays could say "raise" "call" etc. but that was it

(4,138 posts)Saw a couple of them. Best hand I ever drew myself was flopping a K-9 straight flush.
Craziest hand I saw overall was an Omaha Hi-Low hand where 4 10s were beaten by a straight flush, that was beaten by a higher straight flush. Omaha Hi-Low has higher average hands than most other forms of poker, especially at low limits where lots of people will stay in for the whole hand.

(3,531 posts)I vote James Bond Casino Royale. The final hand where every single player at the table had an absolute monster hand, culminating in James having the biggest badest hand of all? Absolutely ridiculous. Don't have the energy to look up the scene, but it was really really stupid.
