I hear apple Iphone takes up more data than a Samsung of the same size.

(68,644 posts)And some of it can be avoided/corrected by using the right settings, iCloud for example duplicated all my photos and videos.
With the right settings, I suspect it would be a wash and for me it's all about the intuitiveness of the interface.
Every phone I ever had before an iPhone baffled me and I needed to consult the manual.
Never have I had to with an iPhone, at least not with respect to using functions.
I have, however, had to look up tricks to extend battery life and manage data.
Good luck, whatever yo do!

(118,734 posts)I'm going to have to renegotiate my contract and sign a new one for sure. I'll see what the different prices are. And if I can get a deal.

(51,122 posts)The vast majority prefer American Apple over Korean Samsung.
There's a reason why Apple's profits are surging, while Samsung's profits are drastically shrinking.
Quality and usability. Samsung is preparing to pull out of the Japanese market because of Apple's gains. Apple is winning in every market including the Chinese market where 'bankers' said they didn't have a chance.
Samsung's 'flagship store' in London just closed due to lack of faith.
Humans know usability and quality.

(100,090 posts)- Resolution (2560 x 1440 vs. 1920 x 1080)
- Stylus
- Storage (32GB onboard, 128GB SXHD card - which is $100 compared to the $500 price of admission on the 128GB iPhone)
- Case options
- No bending
- 5.7" screen vs. 5.5" screen
- Manufactured in Korea vs. Manufactured in human-rights violating Foxconn
I could go on and on.

(51,122 posts)Some assembly happens in Korea. Mostly sticking the Chinese made phones in boxes.
Lotta rambling misinformation in your post.

(12,412 posts)People who are highly proficient at customizing their phones, who prefer open source programs, and do not want to pay out the nose for every thing they do on their phones demand higher standards.
Samsung just offers the better phone for a lower cost. There are many other android models that beat the iphone and Samsung hands down at at much higher costs.

(81,866 posts)You should compare features of the OS, usability, camera and screen quality, built in apps (FaceTime), etc. Cost may be a comparison point as well.
Generally the only app that's hard to replace from the iPhone is FaceTime. If you have a lot of family and friends on it, that may make a difference.

(16,245 posts)It has 16 GB and an expansion slot, so there should be plenty of room for photos, music, etc, if that's what you want.
I mean, I hate Apple with a passion, so there's that, but there are plenty of phones out there that are just as good, if not better than an Iphone.

(17,101 posts)Love it. Previously had an early Samsung Galaxy.
Drawbacks for some are no external SD card capability, and the quality of the camera is a bit less than the Galaxy (but not by much).
Unless you have a Mac computer with which you can sync the iPhone to, I'd look elsewhere.

(100,090 posts)Are they talking physical size of the storage space required for the operating system? Or are they talking about background processes used for iOS that eat 3G and 4G data?
I'm due for a new phone in like two weeks and I very badly want a Note 4 over an iPhone 6.

(5,829 posts)The one I have now needs replacing due to low storage, but it's at least 5 yrs old -- ancient, I'm told. It doesn't want to show pix on DU but shows/plays vids, and still shows pix from emails. I intend to get another Samsung.
Good luck.

(8,217 posts)I just prefer its data and folder handling, the navigation from screen to screen, the sound and everything else. Ok, fine, the camera could have been a better quality, but it is negligible in comparison to Samsung and Apple. The best camera I have found from experience is the Nokia Lumia Windows Phones however. I would have gone Windows Phone, but there were applications in the Android that were not in the Windows Phone yet at the time.

(5,909 posts)It's his first phone; he got it on his 13th birthday.

(28,552 posts).... "built in" battery (you can't remove/replace it without taking the phone apart, a job for a technician) I would have bought one. I just think that is a really bad idea, saved a couple of bucks of manufacturing costs.
Instead I bought a Samsung Nexus 4, and so did my wife.
The phone is "pretty good" I could give it a 7 out of 10. We've both had issues with them from time to time but most of the time they work well. Only inherent design flaw is weak audio on speakerphone.
When these get old I'm not sure what I will get next but I have to admit I am not an Apple fan.

(56,912 posts)at work, it is about half and half Samsung owners vs. Apple owners. I like the Samsung product better. Seems more user friendly and faster to maneuver.

(2,531 posts)If you want a fine phone that just works, and will will never eat your data needlessly. At the moment it was on sale at BlackBerry World for the ridiculously cheap price of $250. I dont think you'll need to buy a phone on contract at that price.
Dont discount BlackBerry before you check it out. And please dont knock it here before you see for yourself.

(3,747 posts)Just swapped from my completely smashed HTC, and it's nice. I much prefer the flexibility of the android OS, so Apple wasn't even a consideration for me. I love the water resistance on the S5, too. Showers are much better with music

(34,112 posts)and I loved my Samsung Galaxy 3 until I drowned it. The note is large, has a stylus that is fun to play with and is so easy to customize. The photos are great too, people have thought I was taking pictures with a good camera when it was just the phone camera. It also plays well with others (integrates well). I have had other Androids, Motorola was good too but the SSGalaxy series is wonderful.
I have had Apple things and will never own another one. Besides the fanboi crap I just find them stupid for all the hype and just not all that great. Never again.

(6,336 posts)And I won't have an iPhone that an employer does not issue. I just don't like Apple very much (mostly for the lack of customization).

(12,190 posts)You can easily control your settings, so don't let that deter you.

(6,336 posts)With my Galaxy, I can change the text settings (I find the Apple white text on a green background very hard to read --- I didn't mind the old system but the new one looks like it was designed by someone who was high at the time) and change the font (very minor, but I HATE the Apple default font), size, etc. I have 6 color choices for the text settings on my Galaxy and most of them are black text over a pastel color in a bolder type, much easier to read than (non bold) white text on a neon color. (I'm in my 30s, so it's not like my eyes are that old, but they're very strained).
If I could customize an iPhone like I could with a galaxy (I've played with other iPhones before) then I might consider getting one. But I really dislike Apple's 'my way or the highway' approach.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,783 posts)I have an iPhone and I like it. A friend has a Samsung and he hates it; he can't ever get it to work right and complains about it all the time. But then, he's probably the most technologically-challenged person in the world (he has been known to have trouble operating a vacuum cleaner) so his experience probably isn't typical. If you use an Apple computer you might prefer the iPhone. The Galaxy is bigger than the iPhone, which might be good if you need a larger screen, or bad if you want something that fits easily in a pocket or purse. Best thing to do is go an electronics store and look at both, see which suits you better.
narnian60
(3,510 posts)and my Samsung Galaxy S5 has been the easiest phone for me to learn to operate.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,783 posts)He really has an awful time with anything related to computers, not to mention cars, refrigerators, and any machine more complex than a wind-up toy. So the Galaxy is probably just fine for the average technologically-challenged person - as is the iPhone.

(61,695 posts)Love it. Do almost everything with it.
It doesn't support watching certain online tv programming, but it's rare for me to watch that anyway. I still have Apps for other TV stuff, like satellite tv and my premium channels and many cable channels.
I like the larger screen and many features.
