Anybody remember Jimmy Rodgers? I barely do. I remember "Honeycomb" and this one: (Original Post) panader0 Feb 2015 OP
Is he just fretting with his thumb for the 'slide guitar' effect? lovemydog Feb 2015 #1
Not to be confused with Jimmie Rodgers, The "Singing Brakeman" panader0 Feb 2015 #3
He's using an open tuning so it only takes one finger to make a chord melman Feb 2015 #10

Yeah, but it severely limits what "chords" you can play. panader0 Feb 2015 #15
Richie Havens was the first though that came to mind when I read the OP Tom Ripley Feb 2015 #17

I've never heard of him before now. I wonder if he played all his songs that way.

Standing up in the front seat of a 1963 Chevy Impala as my dad drove us through the streets of L.A. with KHJ blasting "Honeycomb" from the little speaker in the dashboard. Of course, there are a lot of great songs that I heard for the first time in the same way. What memories!

I grew up listening to his albums. It was a happy surprise to hear one of his his songs in a recent commercial -- recognized his voice as soon as I heard it!
