(23,340 posts)The Akron Rubber Bowl concert, where about 3,000 fans were tear-gassed when police released the gas at the top of the stadium. The trouble started during the Commander Cody opening act, with fans and cops having skirmishes at the top of the stadium.
Most of the gassed, like us, were just sitting in their seats watching the show. An entire section of the stadium emptied itself out onto the football field below. The stage was at one end of the field.
edit to add:
The police arrested Grace Slick and Paul Kantner, and they had literally nothing to do with it. Typical police work of the time.

(3,601 posts)Sober, Grace Slick is one of the sweetest, nicest people in the world. It was a pleasure to talk to her and meet her.
Paul Kantner is a gentleman with a quirky sense of humor. He was also a pleasure to meet him. He also seemed to me to be a big motherfucker.

(18,837 posts)I have literally hundreds of mix CDs I've made over the years. I GAVE a friend two LARGES boxes FULL of them before moving Nevada. That's because I probably have a grand total of 20 or so FULL albums I like from start to finish, and I cherry-pick everything else from the thousands I have owned.
Surrealistic Pillow would be an iconic album WITHOUT its ties to the "Summer of Love." But when you add it in, there's no escaping the fact that this is a masterpiece that has lost none of its power in the almost HALF CENTURY since its release (February 1967).
