(24,721 posts)New Jersey & New Orleans do seem very compatible -- the style & demeanor of the people, &, yes, even the accents. New Orleanians have what we call "yat" speak. "Yat" is a regional derivative of a N.O. catch-phrase, "Where you at!", which is a way of saying, "how are you?", but spoken in slang, "Where y'at!". Whenever I watch a movie depicting New Orleanians speaking with a Southern accent, I shake my head in disbelief. The Southern accents begin in the northern part of the state.
I do happen to have a touch of Southern accent, though, because my parents came from Arkansas & I picked up some of their accents.

(17,087 posts)At noon on Jan. 2, Davis opened a brief email message at home from Springsteen's booking agent, Barry Bell. Even though the 2012 festival's roster was already finalized, Bell asked, might there still be room for the E Street Band?
In 2006, during the first Jazz Fest after Hurricane Katrina, Springsteen delivered what was arguably one of the most powerful and emotional performances in the festival's four-decade history. His return would automatically rank among the most hotly anticipated bookings of a festival already top-heavy with the Eagles, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, the Foo Fighters and a Beach Boys reunion.
That trip apparently made an indelible impression on him. He returns to Jazz Fest, this time with the E Street Band, for Jazz Fest 2012.

"It wasn't possible, but how do you not?" Davis said of adding Springsteen. "It's not the sort of thing where you say, 'We'll do it next year.'"

(24,721 posts)It's usually either steamy-hot weather or, more often, rain showers that create a very muddy ground at that time of the year when Jazz Fest is going on. But I regret missing John Mayer when he came in, I believe, '07 or '08 (at that time, I believed he was going to become this generation's James Taylor). I really don't want to miss this.
