the guy who co-wrote the song "eye of the tiger" (jim peterik), and was the founder of the band "survivor," also wrote this kick-ass hit that was a one-hit wonder for the chicago based band "ides of march" and charted up to 2 on billboard's hot 100 in 1970: vehicle!!!
trivia: wiki has a quote about how/why he wrote the song:
"Peterik wrote "Vehicle" as a joke.
"I got the idea from one of these anti-drug pamphlets they distributed in a school. It was very tongue-in-cheek."
during a 2011 interview, peterik said: "My favorite song that I wrote is probably "Vehicle" with The Ides of March. The song has stood the test of time and has been performed by everyone from Sammy Davis, Jr to Tom Jones and even Bo Bice on American Idol"

and recently, on a steve dahl radio show interview, i heard peterik say he wrote the song in about five minutes about his girlfriend who was always getting him to drive her around & he said to her: "i'm just your vehicle, baby"
he also wrote this wonderful song that i love:

(38,613 posts)Back when I was 11 or so, 1978, I went to one of my elementary school's fundraising carnival/fair things, where they have games and things for 50 cents and give away cheap prizes. Some of the games gave away 45's, but they were never from any bands you heard of, and certainly nothing that you'd hear on the radio.
I won some game, and as my prize I got a 45 of a song called "Don't Fight the Feeling" by some unknown-to-me guy named Jim Peterik.
I fell in LOVE with this song!! It was basically my theme song throughout those few years of transition between child and teenager, and I got a great deal out of listening to it.
Well, it was forgotten once I hit high school, learned guitar, and started getting into hard rock/metal/etc. In fact, I didn't even remember it existed until 2014, when I came across his name somewhere and tried to remember why it was familiar. I ended up getting kind of obsessive about getting a copy of it in some format or other, or even something more than just a reference to it.
I dug deep, but finally found a download link for an mp3 file of the song. It even has scratches from being recorded from a 45!
