Help my wife write this letter she plans on sending to everyone in the complex.

This is what she has so far:

Dear Condo Owner:

Just because a rule has stood for several years does not mean it cannot change and I am asking you help me change a current rule which does not allow condo owners to have pets living in the Condo owner’s unit. I am aware of some moving into this complex and having to re-home pets because of confusion about being allowed pets.

No we so not know most of our neighbors.

My wife is determine to write the residence every week.

She said, "I'd like to address this meeting of the Harper Valley P.T.A."

Well, there's Bobby Taylor sittin' there and seven times he's asked me for a date
Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lot of ice whenever he's away
And Mr. Baker, can you tell us why your secretary had to leave this town?
And shouldn't widow Jones be told to keep her window shades all pulled completely down?

Well, Mr. Harper couldn't be here 'cause he stayed too long at Kelly's Bar again
And if you smell Shirley Thompson's breath, you'll find she's had a little nip of gin
Then you have the nerve to tell me you think that as a mother I'm not fit
Well, this is just a little Peyton Place and you're all Harper Valley hypocrites

When you bought the condo, you should have been given a book with the Condo documents. I would read them & see if a certain section in these documents does not allow pets. If so, in the letter I would refer to that section number & subsection.

If there is nothing in the documents, see if there is an attached rule somewhere in these documents. These rules usually refer to items such as parking rules, the specific times work can be done in the condo, etc.

If it is a rule, I would refer to that rule & the date it was enacted. If there is no documentation anywhere about not having pets, I would refer to that in the letter.

I would also put in some specifics, e.g. the change of rule would allow the Condo Board to allow cats only or dogs and cats, also the pet could be no more than a certain weight, the owner would have to show yearly documentation that the pet has had rabies shots, etc. and the Board may charge the owner a refundable fee (like one months maintenance fee).

You may want to also add some stats about pets being an emotional and health benefit to their owners.

1. Ask the homeowners to do something. Some kind of action.

2. Ties into #1, have a well thought out plan already in the works.

It might be a good idea to take the temperature of the population. If the majority of the homeowners like the no-pet rule, you could be in for some rough sailing. On the other hand, wide support will be necessary to make the kinds of changes you desire. You need to back up your claims ie: pet ownership increases home values. Sounds good but you need evidence.

Good luck.

Dear Condo Owner:
I am asking you help me change a current rule which does not allow condo owners to have pets living in the Condo owner’s unit.

Pets enhance the quality of life of many people, and I think that the addition of pets to our community will not only be beneficial to the pet owners, but also to the community as a whole. It will make our community more vibrant and more attractive to potential future home buyers, possibly making it easier to sell when it is time to move on.

Please keep in mind that animals-not just dogs- are used not only to aide those with physical disabilities but are now used with the aide of emotional support such as pet therapy. Public places are allowing such animals on their premises more and more each day.

I am aware that this rule has been in place for several years and has caused some individuals to have to re-home their animals when taking residence in this community but just because a rule has been in place for many years does not mean it cannot be changed.

I propose this rule is re- examined and placed up for vote once again.

If you have any questions I can be reached by calling (Not comfortable placing my number on DU) and I am in Unit # in the 150 building.

Sincerely,

The PDA files are mess trying to read them. Half of them are hand written and had been photo copied and a couple files are sideways. I will send anyone the PDAs if you want to look at them. I am trying to get them printed out but one file is like 45 pages and the other file is 10 and at the moment we don't have a working printer.

You don't want to be offensive, you just want them to consider a different kind of condo community.
