Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy bastard neighbors are trying to drive my wife insane!
I was going to bring the cat my mother is caring for up to our condo for a 48 hour visit since we are allowed a 48 hour visit. NOW we get a note stating that WE cannot have smokey up in our condo until further notice that it is EVEN THOUGH IT IS CLEARLY STATED that pets are only allowed for visits up to 48 hours.
We get a letter address to us tonight stating smokey won't be allowed up until further notice and that ONLY DOGS are permitted for visits!
My wife wants to go to an attorney. She said according her friend they seem to be infringing on our rights as home owners. How can you have clearly stated in a billboard that pets are allow for a visit only up to 48 hours YET FORBID US TO HAVE A CAT UP IN OUR HOME!
Am I seriously completely wrong here? It seems they are purposely trying to make us sell!
Advise. If I knew how to take a picture from my phone and put it on this board. I do have the photo.

(130,975 posts)Do see an attorney, and get the bastard neighbors off of your backs. The neighbors don't run the condo, do they?

(14,691 posts)In my experience, if there's any problem with having pets, they're against dogs, not cats.

(102,297 posts)its authority and my older neighbor (who was admittedly a bit strange but a very nice lady) was targeted and harassed. Leaving out the details, she was on a fixed income but purchased one of those annual lawyer plans, which offer pretty generous consultive help for pretty routine issues. She got them to write a letter or two to the HOA and my understanding is that they have since given her a wide berth.
Something to look into. I don't think these plans are too expensive, though I doubt they'd be much help for a major legal issue.

(4,033 posts)the only entity that can deny you anything is the Condo Board. If you do not have a letter from them, feel free to bring in the cat for its 48 hour visit. If you want to respond to the letter writer(s) (which I don't suggest you do), end the letter with the statement that you will take them to the local magistrate and charge them with harassment.
p.s. email me if you want to meet for coffee.

(4,033 posts)is she President of the Board? Also, I hate assholes like her. When I was on my Condo Board, my co members were dumb, dumber and dumbest of all the people I know. They knew nothing of rules, regulation, and bylaws. They allowed the management company to manage everything. That company ignored matters long enough that one repair cost us over $600,000.00. They allowed one maintenance man without overtime to earn $60,000.00 a year and he does nothing.
They went after people they didn't like, charging them for repairs that were the responsibility of the Association, etc. A well run Board would not allow those things to happen. They ended up in litigation where they were found responsible so along with payment to an Attorney they had to pay out to the owner.

(36,865 posts)2) Give notice (if there is no proof in the bylaws that cats are exempted from the 48 hour policy).
3) Enjoy cat! Even as a member of the board, your neighbor has no authority over you if the bylaws do not specifically state that you are not allowed to have a cat for the 48 hour policy.
4) Document everything (and I mean everything).
5) Don't get so worked up, it is bad for your health. Some people thrive in a conflict-ridden environment (especially those who feel that they have power over others).
