As it turns out burning incense in the basement fell into a laundry basket and went unnoticed for a good long while. My not-quite-son-in-law grabbed the flaming pile and ran through the house to carry the flaming bundle outside, burning the tile, the rugs, the floors, the baseboards and the furniture in the process. I'd be really mad at him, but he hurt himself badly and is now in hospital facing skin grafts and months of recovery. The firemen and the ambulance have departed.

So if you see burning laundry, please don't pick it up. You will get hurt badly.

I wish your not-quite-son-in-law all the best.

Hope the damages to the house aren't major and are covered by your homeowners insurance.

s to all!

I haven't heard an update, but my daughter is with him.

Even though the punishment is harsh and unusual for one moment of really stupid, I have this terrible compulsion to yell, "WHERE was your HEAD?"

It was a small, controllable fire and it just exploded everywhere. AARGH!!

My rug looks like a fireworks field on the 5th of July and he looks like a mummy.

I am so so sorry....

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for him (and that your house gets repaired quickly).
