International Kite Day Every year, Gujarat celebrates more than 2,000 festivals. The International Kite Festival (Uttarayan) is regarded as one of the biggest festivals celebrated.[1] Months before the festival, homes in Gujarat begin to manufacture kites for the festival.

The festival of Uttarayan marks the day when winter begins to turn into summer, according to the Indian calendar. It is the sign for farmers that the sun is back and that harvest season is approaching which is called Makar Sankranti. This day is considered to be one of the most important harvest day in India. Many cities in Gujarat organize kite competition between their citizens where the people all compete with each other. In this region of Gujarat and many other states, Uttarayan is such a huge celebration that it has become a public holiday in India for two days.[2] During the festival, local food such as Undhiyu (a mixed vegetable including yam and beans), sesame seed brittle and Jalebi is served to the crowds.[3][4] Days before the festival, the market is filled with participants buying their supplies. In 2012, the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat mentioned that the International Kite Festival in Gujarat was attempting to enter the Guinness World Records book due to the participation of 42 countries in it that year.[5] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Kite_Festival_in_Gujarat_–_Uttarayan

Ratification Day On this day in 1784, the Continental Congress ratifies the Second Treaty of Paris, ending the War for Independence.

In the document, which was known as the Second Treaty of Paris because the Treaty of Paris was also the name of the agreement that had ended the Seven Years' War in 1763, Britain officially agreed to recognize the independence of its 13 former colonies as the new United States of America.

In addition, the treaty settled the boundaries between the United States and what remained of British North America. U.S. fishermen won the right to fish in the Grand Banks, off the Newfoundland coast, and in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Both sides agreed to ensure payment to creditors in the other nation of debts incurred during the war and to release all prisoners of war. The United States promised to return land confiscated during the war to its British owners, to stop any further confiscation of British property and to honor the property left by the British army on U.S. shores, including Negroes or slaves. Both countries assumed perpetual rights to access the Mississippi River. http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/continental-congress-ratifies-the-treaty-of-paris

I am tackling twenty-plus years of old lesson plans. I would love to reclaim my basement. The kids actually used to hang out and shoot pool down there. I would be happy to just see the walls again.

I'm going to try wearing my heels again. If they make my hips hurt, out they go. I love the way they look but not enough to say "ouch".

There are two strappy pair of 3 inch heels made from lizard. I have the matching belt and bag. They should be worth a few bucks if I can find the right antique store that's buying.

I'm dusting a little and tossing stuff out daily while the cold weather last.
Recently I unblocked Mr ITW's vinyl collection. He has 45s.

We also found the entire surface of our dinning room table. I opened the leaf. It's a beautiful piece I picked up while living in Florida.

You'll find the walls connected to the missing corners.
