Gertrude Stein said We all fear death and question our place in the universe. The artist's job is not to succumb to despair, but to find an antidote for the emptiness of existence.
Thinking of the cartoonists in France who provoke and satirize. Musicians who inspire. Filmmakers who create. Painters & photographers who share awesome beauty.
Thank a living artist. Buy their work. Or trade or share your services for it. It enriches your life.
Here's to all the artists who share humanity with us.
Thank you!

(11,833 posts)My mom was a professional musician. I love music, art, film, all of it. Artists are always among the first to respond to tragedies & disasters by doing benefits to help out. That right there tells you a lot about them.

(11,833 posts)The right wing doesn't respond well to humor. If you look at right wing dictatorships, often the first thing they go after is satirists and cartoonists who expose that the emperors have no clothes.

Who are some artists you love?
My tastes are eclectic & wide but I tend to gravitate toward beauty, pop and post-modern.
As far as stuff I enjoy viewing online or in books or shows, I love photography by Cindy Sherman, Robert Frank, Karl Blossfeldt, Tina Modotti, Sebastion Salgado, Sally Mann. And paintings by Keith Haring, Jean Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Monet, Howard Finster, Helen Frankenthaler, Picasso. So many others too.
As far as trading services or purchasing work, I love having work of local artists I've met or know. It's like being surrounded by friends.
