I have come to hate this word.
OK, not 'hate'; that's too strong; but it's very irritating.
It has become an annoying space filler in conversation.
"So, John, where did you go to college?"
"ACTUALLY, I went to..."
"Nice to meet you Alice. What business are you in?"
"ACTUALLY, I'm a ..."
I would use 'actually' to correct a misconception.
"So trof, I hear you're a bartender?"
"No, ACTUALLY I'm a nuclear physicist."
End of small rant.

(25,537 posts)when I hung around the Scandinavian exchange students who often began sentences with it, a mannerism I picked up. Even now I'll begin writing a sentence with it and feel pompous and delete it, unless it actually needs to be there of course.
