On the Milwaukee PBS (WMVS channel 10) they had a show about when the Beatles first came to Milwaukee in 1964.
It was wild.
Anyone here see the Beatles in concert?

(53,339 posts)A bunch of us recent HS grads drove to Dodger Stadium from the San Fernando Valley. Most tickets were $4.50, though there were some better ones available for $6. After the concert we had to walk all the way around the stadium a couple of times to find my car.

(2,682 posts)SAW them but didn't HEAR them. Crowd was too loud. I had just graduated high school, was on a date with a guy (don't remember his name), and we had to take his little brother with us. Other than it being THE BEATLES, it was a largely unremarkable date. Never saw the guy again but I continued to like the Beatles.

(16,327 posts)Saw them at their final show at Candlestick in SF, 1966. We even have home movies. Mom has described it as being unbearable loud with teenage screaming and incredibly smelly -- all those hormonal teen girls just reeked in all the excitement.

In 1965 I was up in the nosebleed section over third base. I think the ticket cost around $5.00 which was not considered that cheap then. It was total madness. From the moment they came onto the field, we stood up and stayed standing, screaming, till the end. I had no idea what they were singing - I had to read about it in the newspaper the next day.
1965 Shea concert was sold out. I don't think the 1966 concert there was sold out - I recall seeing some empty seats. I don't recall much more. I think the 1966 experience was a downer by comparison.

(10,419 posts)The crowd was screaming so loud the police went onstage to stop the show. One of them grabbed John Lennon by the upper arm & John looked like he was ready to smash the cop with his guitar.
The show did go on, though, and the audience kept screaming.

(7,955 posts)and she said she had the folding chair kicked out from under her and she went flying. She was 8 years old and the only reason she went was because the 15 year old sister of her friend wasn't allowed to go unless she took the two tykes along. She said they looked like 4 ants on the stage.

(23,340 posts)I was fascinated not by the music, but by the screaming teenage girls. The music was almost inaudible.

(40 posts)I saw them at the Civic Arena here in Pittsburgh back in 1964. I was 13 at the time and I remember wishing the girls would stop screaming so we could hear them sing. The concert only lasted about 30 minutes but I was glad I got the chance to go.

(28,552 posts)... is why by 1965 they decided to stop touring. Imagine how frustrating it must have been for them, not being able to hear themselves and knowing the fans couldn't hear either.
They went on to pioneer what could be done in the studio only, with huge help from George Martin. And this changed pop music forever as many followed in their footsteps.

On edit: GG allin was the worst show I ever went to. You know it is a bad show when someone throws poo at you.

(14,881 posts)I could see 4 tiny little stick people waaaaaay in the distance. Would have needed binoculars -- or maybe telescope -- to confirm they were the Beatles.
Couldn't hear them over the screaming, either.
