which means I got a 2-day weekend for my holiday this year. If I were celebrating Christmas, I'd be in a funk because I'm working Christmas eve, the day after and the day after that. I won't have another 2-day weekend until January.

I've been working, working, working, so I'm weary and underslept. The little bit of extra money is barely worth it, but I'm trying to focus on next spring when I can quit one p/t job. It's rained almost every day I've had off since July, so I gave up and quit even thinking about riding my pony.

On the one nice day I had off last August, I took the dogs on a hike and overdid it, injuring my knee. While that healed, the compensatory action strained my ankle and sciatica. So I couldn't walk the dogs or do much of anything for a couple months. I regained a several of the 5 inches of fat that I'd lost over the prior year, so I'm pretty unhappy about that.

And my Christmas present, which really was supposed to be my Yule present, was delayed to the New Year soonest, too.

However, on the Solstice, along with my 1st Druid ritual, I started back on my old yoga routine and follow that up with 25 crunches, done ever-more-slowly-and-deeply and holding the last one while I burn. Shocking to find that 15 minutes of yoga starts me sweating. That is a first But my overall health continues good and after just 4 days on my yoga routine I have increased my flexibility and strength.

If we make it through December
Everythings gonna be all right I know
It's the coldest time of winter
And I shiver when I see the fallin snow

If we make it through December
I got plans of bein in a warmer town come summer time
Maybe even California
If we make it through December we'll be fine

I got laid off down at the factory
And there timings not the greatest in the world
Heaven knows I been workin' hard
I wanted Christmas to be right for daddy's girl
Now I don't mean to hate December
It's meant to be the happy time of year
And why my little girl don't understand
Why daddy can't afford no Christmas here

If we make it through December
Everythings gonna be alright I know
It's the coldest time of winter
And I shivver when I see the fallin' snow

If we make it through December
I got plans of bein' in a warmer town come summer time
Maybe even California
If we make it through December we'll be fine

I'm not bitter, but rather, just disinterested. The fact that I have have to work all holidays unless they fall on my days off has sort of desensitized them to me the past couple of decades. With a "business as usual" mindset, it's tough to get that nice feeling I had about it years ago. This seems more common now anyway, as years ago I noticed everyone was a little more pleasant and forebearing as christmas neared. I don't see that anymore.

The crass commercialism doesn't help either.

Hi Ineeda I got your card and nice note. The kids and the grandkids are all good and I hope you and yours are as well. XXXX passed away in September after a 2 year battle with cancer. Not a very happy Christmas this year. While I was up in XXXXX in September for XXXX's service Tom told me he had cancer on his vocal chords. He finishes up 30 days of radiation the end of December. While they were on their way up to XXXXX for the service XXXXXXX's {Tom's wife} doctor called her to come back. When they got back he told her she had lymphoma. She is undergoing treatment now. All and all not a good year.
Merry Christmas and a Happy 2015
XXXXXXX

It was a typed page of woes inserted in a Christmas card. The funny thing was, the front of the card said, "Joyful Greetings."

I just laughed and told my husband it was the funniest Christmas letter I had ever read.

One of my husband's very good friends--and a former colleague--lost his three year battle with
esophageal cancer on Dec. 7th. He was 63 and had retired not many months before he was diagnosed.
His wife had her 60th birthday two days after he died.

I hope you will be feeling better by the time New Year's eve rolls around!

In the meantime, cyberhugs for you!

than you?

This may sound like a crappy response, but sometimes it helps to make someone else's holiday better. Give a homeless person a coat or blanket, or give a shelter kid a toy.

Yeah, I'm a tree hugger, but seriously, at times like these it helps to help someone who is worse down on their luck than you.

"I just want to get the whole damn thing over with"… It may have been for different reasons, but I was there.

You know… It's good to be reminded at this point that you WILL look back on this next year with a much lighter heart, mopinko. I can practically guarantee it.

That should give you plenty to look forward to… which is my wish right now. Hang in there.
