(17,997 posts)It was in the Odessa Files so I hope it counts. My favorite Christmas song.
Christmas Dream:
This is why it's my favorite:
Watch me now, here I go, all I needs a little snow!
Starts me off, sets the theme, helps me dream my Christmas dream,
Every year I dream it, hoping things will change,
An end to the crying, the shouting, the dying,
And I hope you will dream it too!
Its Christmas, Remember? Weve got to remember!
So, light the light, Im home tonight,
I need you to warm me, to calm me, to love me!
To help me to dream my Christmas dream!

(17,997 posts)My parents played Perry Como, The Kingston Trio and some others every Christmas. When I first heard the words to this song, I actually started crying. I guess I didn't let the polka part sink in because I never even realized it until now.

(3,208 posts)I don't think I have ever heard it before.
I grew up with a mom who played Perry Como. Also Ray Charles and a lot of Sing Along with Mitch. Once I became a teenager I thought it was all pretty goofy stuff, but I think it made a good early music experience!
Thank you so much for sharing this song. It's almost like getting a Christmas gift. I am still enjoying my seasonal music, but it would be nice to add something new to the shuffle!

I still love most of the stuff my parents listened to. Mostly folk rock so nothing to stop listening to.

(28,394 posts)He used to do a Christmas special every year. I couldn't find a video from the show, but he always ended with "Oh Holy Night".

(5,170 posts)I think I gave her a Perry Como album like three Christmases in a row.
And speaking of songs from Christmas specials, who can forget the great Bing Crosby/David Bowie duo (below)? I remember watching that when it was new -- I was about 10. I heard an interview with Bing's daughter Kristin recently on NPR. She said Bowie refused to sing the Little Drummer Boy after already agreeing to sing a duet with Bing. Apparently he thought it a particularly cheesy Christmas song (I don't necessarily disagree). In any case, to save the duet, in a matter of hours, the musical staff for the show had written new lyrics and a melody for Bowie to sing while Bing did Little Drummer Boy. This video is the result. Great story!
Oh, and Bing's kids hated being forced to participate in their dad's annual Christmas TV show. Apparently, they weren't as talented as their proud poppa thought they were and they got teased incessantly at school for their weak performances on national TV.

(5,170 posts)I never saw this episode -- maybe I'd stopped watching Ally McBeal by then. I remember its quality really varied by season.

(5,364 posts)They danced and sang to a vaudvillian type tune. Funny as hell. Trippy.
