so, last August, I stubbed my pinkie toe and the one next to it in the middle of the night

they were swollen for a month and hurt like crazy.

Now it is December and towards the evening every night the toes and part of my foot hurt horribly and goes a little numb.

PRetty sure I broke them but it is too late to do anything now.

If I went to the Dr. do you think he would take x-rays or is it something I should just learn to live with?

Just to make sure you have not screwed up any important circulation that will come back to bite you in later years.
and for pain management.
Swollen for a month sounds like more than a sprain.

....except tape it to the next toe. But I'm wondering about the tiny sesamoid bones near the ball of the foot. Those can be inflamed by an injury, and that process is called sesamoiditis. They can be broken, too.

I injured my foot in that area two years ago, and I still have a lot of pain and some swelling from it.

I think you should see a doctor, particularly because of the numbing. You don't want any nerve damage or something like that.

I recommend going to the doc and getting checked out anyway, even though the accident happened a few months ago.

Having broken many, many toes I can tell you than a break that healed out of place can cause foot and ankle issues down the line. A good podiatrist can tell you whether or not you need a repair of the old break.

Have him look at both of your feet.Feet can tell him a lot about your health.
I hurt the ball pf my foot and the only thing that really helped was warm water and gentle massage.I had to walk around on concrete floors in steel toed boots.Good times...
My Dr. says if you are over 40 you should wear real good shoes and be careful with your feet.
